More and more people these days are setting up a home gym instead of paying out expensive monthly gym membership subscriptions. With the price of a gym membership costing around £30 - £40 a month there is no better time to set up your own fitness area at home.
Below you will see my 5 top tips to setting up a home gym. These are pointers that I have found to be useful when setting up my own fitness area and also when I have advised others.

Top Tip Number 1
Shop around - Always review prices and do not settle for the first price that you come across. Use price comparison websites to aid in your search for the right fitness equipment. However, please remember that you really do get what you pay for. You cannot put a price on quality.
Top Tip Number 2
Size matters - Make sure that you have done your homework and that you have checked and double checked the size of the area you have free for your home gym. There is nothing worse than buying a bulky piece of fitness equipment only to find that it does not fit in the space you had planned for it. Check the measurements and make sure you allow for room to manoeuvre around and to operate the equipment.
Top Tip Number 3
Reviews - Reviews are pinnacle to making purchases of almost anything. When you have found a piece of fitness equipment that you think is suitable, search the internet for reviews. See what others have thought of their purchase and use that as a basis of whether you should part with your money or not. However, you have to keep an open mind. A sports machine that someone else finds difficult to use may be just perfect for you to operate.
Top Tip Number 4
It's all about the service - Review the company prior to making a purchase. See what others have made of their customer service. You want to avoid a company who others have had issues with when it comes to dealing with complaints and dealing with customers. You need to have peace of mind that if the worst happens and there is an issues with your purchase that you can be rest assured that the company with do their utmost to solve the problem.
Top Tip Number 5
Slow and steady wins the race - Do not jump right into the deep end. If you are starting out setting up a home gym then do not go in above your head. If you are a beginner do not go out and buy a full blown body building machine which is way above your limits. Stick to machines that you know you can operate. An effective workout is one that you can complete and recover from in sufficient time.
Remember that when setting up a home gym your aim will to be either just get fit or you will have specific sport related goals you are looking to achieve. You have to keep those goals in the forefront of your mind and stay motivated.
Working out at home will test you ability to stay motivated and avoid distractions. If there are others in your household get them involved, it is harder to make excuses if you have committed yourself to workout with other people in the home.
