Do You Need to Lose Weight? Well, You're in the Right Place!

We have all been there. I mean, how many people haven't turned around and said to themselves: "Hey, I'm getting too fat. I need to lose weight"? (Well, some people don't need to, and the rest of us hate them for it!)

In all honesty though, "denial" isn't just a river in Egypt. Then there is the other end of the stick, where people think they're overweight and they totally AREN'T. We're getting into the good stuff now - keep reading!

OK, let's get this out of the way first. The first sign that you need to lose weight is being obese. (Many people have a warped opinion of what "obese" is, but we will get to that). Overweight is not obese. Overweight is a little chubby. Are you 30 pounds overweight or more? You're probably obese. A lot of people don't want to be obese for the wrong reasons. It's not all about looks, I mean sure, we all want to look great, but what it does to your health is a lot worse. Don't want to die early? Get that obesity in check now. Obesity is linked to many health problems, including high blood pressure, heart attacks, heart disease and strokes. (Believe me none of these you want, eek!) And more often than not they contribute to early death. It's bad enough that we live an uncomfortable life being too overweight without the thought of kicking the bucket before our time. Let us be older, healthy and free!
OK, next example (hang in there!)
We know we need to lose weight if your doctor has said something, and let's be honest, we often don't say anything to friends and family because we don't want to hurt their feelings. People hate being told they're fat (probably because they know it's true!) so people do their best to not rock that boat.
Also, if someone DID rock that boat, it doesn't necessarily mean that their opinion is useless, even if they aren't a doctor or a healthcare worker. It pays to keep such opinions in consideration because, hey, you might actually feel better if you listen to the people ripping you to shreds! (Just kidding, but it pays to look at it in a mature way and from all angles).
I know we all care about what we look like. You know, other people don't really care about what YOU look like, as long as they look better. (Just kidding, but they are more concerned about their own appearance)- They are more likely to be much more concerned about your health! We want the people we know and love to be happy and healthy, it goes without saying. Try not to take it the wrong way when someone does say something, because you might be thanking them later.
Moving on - the evidence is in the wardrobe!
How long has it been since you last tried on that pair of jeans? Yes, all our weights fluctuate, but slowly the pounds can creep on to the point where it feels like we wake up and say "Where did those 10 pounds come from?" When you get this tell-tale sign, it's a good starting point to kick in with the weight loss goals, and weight loss plans. I mean, you may not want your old clothes, you could say "I don't really wear them anyway", but they are good to go by when measuring yourself against what you once were. Even if you just throw them in the bottom drawer and pull them out once a month to see that you're not gradually creeping up. If you can get into healthier habits, you're much more likely to save money too without all these expensive new clothes, and your old ones can last longer (unless they're really unfashionable now!). People don't usually just gain a small amount of weight. You have to have that self-control to say "STOP!" once you gain that weight, and not many people do - so it is very common for it to creep back on. The "old clothes test" is a good way to keep your mind up to date with your lifestyle habits and their effects.
The unfit test - how's your fitness going?
A good way to tell our depleting fitness is to measure how hard it is to do things? Stairs - A piece of cake? When they aren't then you have to look into it. Get out of breath easily? It could mean you have a fitness problem, or it could be medical, but in most people, it's fitness. When everyday activities become a chore - (and by all means, many ARE a chore anyway, who wants to clean the toilet?) it may mean that your body's fitness is dropping, and you may find it's easier to pile on the pounds. By increasing your fitness level, you can make a walk in the park, well, a walk in the park! The easier it becomes to do active things, the less it becomes like a chore, and you will start wanting to do them more and more and get the ball rolling until you're as fit as a fiddle.
This article is an outline of a few ways you will be able to tell you've gotten a little heavy in the weight department, but you have to know them. No-one wants to wake up and feel like they've gained a huge amount of weight pretty much overnight. (Yikes!)
Firstly, if you've gotten to the point where you've said "hey, I need to lose weight; I'm going to do something about it!" Then good on you! That is a great first step! Make sure you choose the ways you want to lose weight carefully, and proceed with caution. Don't fall into traps of gimmicky products that don't work, Have a good look around and see what's available, and what other people rate it. Other people are the best way to go when trying to find a product that's any good, that way you can see if it actually works before you use it.
If all else fails, talk to your doctor about the problem. They would be more than happy to help you on your weight loss journey. They can provide you with a weight loss plan, or you can buy a weight loss plan, or even make your own plan (There are heaps of resources out there just waiting to be used!)
Whatever you choose to do, take the information that you've gained weight, and use it to improve your life. You have to see the signs, and then take action!
